Adam achieved a first class degree from Norwich School of Art, followed by a Masters in Narrative Illustration from the University of Brighton. His strength lies in natural draftsmanship using a strong fluid line with witty and charming characterisation.
His first picture book SLAM! won the Norfolk Library Silver Award for Children's Books. His collaboration with Jeanne Willis, Bottoms Up! won the Red House Children's Book Award the sequel, Sing a Song of Bottoms was shortlisted for the Early Years Award. His own picture book Silly Doggy! won the Wanda Gag Read Aloud Book award and was longlisted for the Kate Greenaway. He has since published Troll and the Oliver, shortlisted for the Peters Books Award and the sequel Grumbug.
King Coo about a girl with a beard, lavishly illustrated and laugh out loud funny was chosen for The Summer Reading challenge in 2019. King Coo, Curse of the Mummy's Gold won The Alligators Mouth Book Award 2020 for young illustrated fiction. He is also well known for his strong character designs, cover artworks and black and white illustrations. Forging a new dynamic partnership with David Walliams, Adam illustrates his younger picture books and fiction, bringing his wonderful illustrations to a wider audience. Always adept at telling the story through pictures he perfectly entwines illustration and text to involve the reader in an immersive world.
Adam is brilliant at events and regularly visits schools and festivals entertaining children and adults alike.
