On Tuesday night, we went along to the opening of the most exciting exhibition to hit the streets of London this year: Green Drops and Moonsquirters – The UTTERLY Imaginative World of Lauren Child. This brand-new exhibition is based on the fantastic books that have propelled Lauren Child into the stratosphere. It is the first time that fans will be able to see all of her characters brought to life in one place. Starting at the Manchester Art Gallery, the exhibit travelled to Newcastle and is now at Discover, the renowned children’s story-making centre based in Stratford.

Her unmistakable illustrations from the hugely successful Charlie and Lola (who have gone on to become the stars of the CBBC and Disney Playhouse television series) are on display, as well as Clarice Bean, That Pesky Rat and Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton-Trent. A selection of 3D sets and dolls house furniture created for The Princess and the Pea are on display, all combined with fun and engaging hands-on activities for all the family. You can also sit at Charlie and Lola’s kitchen table, dress-up in Charlie and Lola’s favourite outfits and perform puppet shows to your friends in a theatre created from the four poster bed in The Princess and The Pea. The exhibition runs until April 2011 so make sure you don’t miss it!

For those of you who happen to be free tomorrow, you can see the fabulous Ms. Child in person at Discover for their Big Draw event: absolutely Must Do Drawing, but in the meantime here are a few of our pics from Tuesday for your viewing pleasure…
