Chris Garbutt is a UK-based illustrator, animator, and showrunner currently working in London after an extended creative chapter in Los Angeles, where he co-created and developed an animated project for Netflix Animation with his partner, Rikke Asbjoern. He has also worked in Paris, and holds a First-Class degree in Graphic Arts and Illustration from Leeds Metropolitan University.
With a lifelong passion for comics and storytelling, Chris is driven by the power of visual narrative. He’s known for crafting imaginative worlds and expressive characters, many of which originate as spontaneous doodles on post-it notes. His vibrant and versatile illustrations have appeared across advertising campaigns, apps, comics, books, food packaging, and digital media.
In the animation industry, Chris has taken on a wide range of roles including creator, showrunner, executive producer, writer, director, art director, storyboard artist, and designer. He was the Executive Producer, Showrunner, and Art Director of the hit Netflix/Nickelodeon series Pinky Malinky, which follows the offbeat adventures of a positively charged anthropomorphic hot dog.
