Tony Roberts was born in Worcestershire in 1950 and he studied Fine Art (painting) at Ravensbourne College of Art. After leaving college in 1972 and until the mid 1980s, Tony was commissioned by major UK and US publishers to illustrate science fiction book jackets. During this period he exhibited worldwide and was approached to work was as a concept artist on several film projects, including working alongside the multi-Oscar winning director, Roger Christian.

His work naturally developed and during the 1980s he moved into a more impressionistic style of painting. By the mid 1990s Tony was producing large-scale oil paintings culminating in his solo show of 85 works, Of Shadows and Storms, at the Burstow Gallery, Brighton.

Tony currently serves on the organising committee of OpenArt, a Sussex-based biennial art event, and also manages a group of independent painters while contuning with his own illustration work.
