We’re thrilled to celebrate the publication of Hot Food: Nice!, a joyful new picture book written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Neal Layton, just published by Walker Books.

Based on Michael Rosen’s much-loved and wildly viral poem, this hilarious story brings to life the moment every child, and parent, can relate to: when dinner is just too hot! In Rosen’s signature rhythmic style, readers are invited to giggle along as Dad takes on one very fiery potato, with inevitably chaotic results.

Neal Layton’s vibrant, expressive illustrations perfectly capture the energy, warmth, and humour of the poem, translating Rosen’s performance magic into lively visual storytelling. Neal’s artwork fizzes with movement and emotion, making Hot Food: Nice! a read-aloud delight for families and classrooms alike.

In celebration of Michael Rosen Day, which honours the author’s extraordinary contribution to poetry and children’s literature, we’re especially proud to share that Neal also designed the official Michael Rosen Day logo, making this collaboration even more special.

We’ve also updated Neal Layton’s portfolio with artwork from inside Hot Food: Nice!, offering a glimpse into this fun-filled family tale of mealtime mayhem and laughter. Watch Michael read the book HERE!
