Alex T Smith

Alex T. Smith graduated from Coventry University with a 1st Class Hons degree in Illustration in 2006. His exceptional observational skills along with his favourite hobbies - people watching, eavesdropping and being a world class window looker-outer, informs the look of the people and animals he creates for his stories.

Alex T Smith's first book, Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero which he illustrated for Scholastic; won the Coventry Inspiration Book Award, was nominated for the Blue Spruce Award, longlisted for the Greenaway Medal in 2009 and Alex himself, was shortlisted for The Best Emerging Illustrator by The Book Trust in 2008.

He has since written and illustrated his own picture books including the heartwarming story Home (Scholastic), Bella & Monty (Hodder) winner of the Dundee Picture Book Award 2011, My Mum Has X-Ray Vision (Scholastic), written Angela McAllister, winner of the Stockport School's Book Award 2011 and Egg (Hodder). His latest book, Ella (Scholastic) has just been published to great reviews. Home, Egg and Eliot Jones Midnight Superhero were also featured on CBeebies Bedtime Stories.

Alex is also the creator of the delightful fiction series Claude, about a little dog's adventures with his sidekick, Sir Bobblysock. Claude in the City was selected for the Richard and Judy Children's Book Club 2011 and was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2012.

Alex has illustrated several successful series You, Me & Thing (Faber & Faber), The Horrible Princess and The Baddie (Meadowside), Fantastic Frankie and The Brain-drain Machine (Simon & Schuster).
