Fred Gambino

Initially inspired by Dr Who and Gerry Anderson on TV Fred has always been an avid fan of the Sci-Fi and Fantasy genres. He’s enjoyed a long and successful career as an illustrator, concept artist, digital matte painter and art director, working on a wide array of content for TV, games and films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Escape from Planet Earth.

Fred studied at Derby College of Art and started his career painting traditionally using acrylics and airbrush, working for all the major UK and US publishing houses. In 2001 he begun work as a concept artist and matte painter on the Oscar nominated Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius and he hasn’t looked back since, contributing to films such as The Ant Bully and The Tale of Despereaux. He now works using a variety of 2D and 3D software including Photoshop, Lightwave, Z-Brush and Modo.

Fred has two art books that showcase his work over his career, the first is Ground Zero and more recently, Dark Shepherd. His Sci-fi book covers from the 1980’s formed a large part of the British Library's design in their Out Of This World exhibition.
